We believe that regular check-ups are the best way to keep dental treatments to a minimum and financial costs down. At a check- up appointment we normally take some radiographs (x-rays), monitor the health of your mouth, your teeth and gums. We will monitor any signs of cancer, infections, tooth decay, broken teeth, any dental abscess, gum disease, bad breath, tooth loss and a misaligned bite etc. We will advise you on the best cleaning techniques and share tips on diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption.
We will give you appropriate advice depending on our findings. Together we will do a treatment plan, including expected costs.
Our gums are the foundations of our teeth and without strong foundations eventually the teeth above will become damaged and may be lost. Gum disease is the main cause of tooth loss. 4 out of 5 people have some gum disease, which is a very worrying fact.

Periodontitis also called gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss.
Periodontitis isn’t curable, only treatable, which is why it’s very important to see a hygienist before the condition gets worse.
Root planning and scaling is one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease before it becomes severe. It is done when gums have either started to pull away from the teeth and the roots of the teeth have hard mineral deposits (tartar)on them.
Root planning and scaling cleans the teeth down to the roots. Your dental hygienist may need to use a local anesthetic to numb your gums and the roots of your teeth.
The most commonly used filling is composite which is a plastic material which comprises of small glass particles. They are natural-looking and blends in with your teeth. There are also inlays which are fillings made by a dental technician and they are glued into the cavity. It takes normally two visits to do these fillings. They can either be made of porcelain or a heat and pressure cured composite plastic material. The average life of an inlay is often longer than other composite fillings.
Crowns are used to replace missing teeth or to strengthen damaged teeth, these will extremely improve the appearance of your teeth. A layer of enamel is removed from the tooth to accommodate the crown. For making a dental crown an Impressions of the prepared tooth will be taken and the shade of the natural teeth is recorded so the crown can be perfectly costume made. To protect the prepared tooth between appointments, (when the lubritorium is making the crown) it will be covered with a temporary crown. When the crown is ready, the temporary crown will be removed and the new permanent one will be fitted with a strong dental cement.
Veneers are a thin tooth-coloured shell placed on the front of a tooth to improve the appearance of discoloured, irregularly shaped or damaged teeth. They are usually fitted to the front upper and lower teeth, and made from ceramic, porcelain or a composite material. Veneers are a minimally invasive way to transform a tooth as only a very thin layer of enamel is removed prior to fitting. Once the tooth has been prepared, impressions will be taken so a customised veneer can be manufactured. The colour of your teeth is also noted so it will blend in perfectly. Then the veneer will be bonded to your tooth with a strong dental adhesive. Veneers are tough restorations but they can be damaged if not treated with care.
Dental bridges are an effective and natural-looking way to replace one or more missing teeth. They are usually made from a combination of porcelain and precious metals, and consist of two crowns, positioned either side of a false tooth, which slot over the teeth adjacent to a gap (the abutment teeth). As well as being fixed over natural teeth, they can also be supported by dental implants.
For preparation of a dental bridge, the abutment teeth are prepared by removing a layer of enamel so the crowns can be easily fitted. then, Impressions will be taken of the teeth so the bridge can be tailor-made to fit. After the bridge has been produced in a laboratory, it is fixed in position with dental cement.
Dentures are removable false teeth that offer a natural-looking and affordable solution to gaps in your mouth. A partial denture can replace just a few lost teeth and a complete denture can be used to restore a whole set of missing teeth. The ‘teeth’ part of the denture is usually made from acrylic (or porcelain) and mounted on a plate made from a metal alloy, acrylic or nylon. dentures nowadays look much more realistic and offer a comfortable way to replace teeth at the first step of the treatment, the soft tissues, gums and bone will be thoroughly assessed to ensure they are healthy. Then correct impressions of your mouth will be taken so a model can be produced by the laboratory and checked for fit and comfort. The final stage is when the dentures are ready and there will be a final fitting, then we will check that the dentures are settling in well. It usually takes a while to get used to new dentures. eating and speaking may be a little effected at first and you may also notice an increase in saliva but all these issues should soon subside as the mouth gets used to the denture.

Sometimes, tooth whitening alone is not enough to resurrect a stunning smile. Dental bonding is often used to repair small chips or cracks and cover up troublesome tooth-stains. Our skilled cosmetic dentist will apply a thin coat of acrylic resin to your teeth. We can sculpt the resin as it hardens so that it evenly covers and fills the damaged areas.

This procedure is done to save a dead or dying tooth and also to prevent or treat dental infections that cause discomfort. The procedure involves removing the infected pulp (nerve) from the innermost part of the tooth. This prevents the infection from spreading and can help save a tooth that may otherwise have to be extracted.
Damage to the pulp is normally caused by decay, a deep filling or trauma to the tooth. Symptoms can include pain, increased sensitivity to temperature, discolouration of the affected tooth, a metallic taste, gum tenderness or swelling.
During the procedure the infected pulp will be removed under a local anaesthetic and the root canals will be flushed with an anti-bacterial solution. The canals are expertly shaped with tiny, flexible instruments under microscope if needed. The cleaned root canals are then filled to seal the tooth and prevent bacteria from entering.

Tooth extraction is usually relatively straight forward, and the vast majority can be usually performed quickly using local anaesthetic injections to eliminate pain. Some teeth are more difficult to extract due to the tooth’s position, the shape of the roots, and the integrity of the tooth.
Teeth are usually extracted if they are damaged, due to breakage or decay. There are other reasons such as gum disease, orthodontics, infection that cannot be treated with root canal treatment or impaction (the tooth is wedged against another).
Extractions are often considered as “simple” or “surgical”.
Simple extractions are generally performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth. however surgical extractions involve the removal of teeth that cannot be easily accessed. The tooth might not have erupted fully. Surgical extractions mostly require an incision. the gum that covers the tooth and bone will be lifted, also some of the overlying and/or surrounding jawbone tissue might be removed with a drill. Often, the tooth may be split into multiple pieces to ease its removal.

To perform a dental implant treatment, we Initially need a full assessment of the general health, oral health and the density of your jaw bone through a city scan. If there is insufficient bone volume for implants, we may need a grafting procedure to allow for successfully placement of the implants. then the titanium posts are surgically placed in the bone. the implants will bond with the bone over a few month as titanium is very well-tolerated by the body. When the implant is fully healed, the replacement teeth can be fitted to the now firmly positioned implants.
A very good oral hygiene has to be maintained following implant treatment to ensure that the implants remain trouble-free.

At White Orchid we provide bespoke teeth whitening kits. These contain everything we love in a home whitening treatment!
We need to see patients for a series of appointments; Examination and moulds, tray fit and tutorial and a follow up appointment to check your shade progress.
Teeth whitening does not provide permanent results, but the trays can be reused if a top up is required.
Our kits are approved by UK regulations which can help avoid side effects such as gum irritation and tooth sensitivity.

What are white spots?
White spots are very common and can be caused by a range of factors including fluorosis from high fluoride intake when the adult teeth are developing, and decalcification – the loss of minerals from the enamel. This is sometimes the result of fixed brace treatment if there has been a lapse in hygiene in the areas surrounding the brackets. In more rare cases, white spots can also be a result of molar incisal hypoplasia caused due to suffering trauma as a baby.
Many people mistake white spots or mottling for staining and think that uniform colour could be restored by whitening. However, the spots would remain lighter in colour than the rest of the tooth. To be rid of white spots forever takes Icon – a non-invasive treatment that targets the pores.
In the past, the only way to treat teeth with white lesions was to cover these up with composite bonding or veneers. These types of treatments require the removal or destruction of healthy tooth material and are not favoured by modern dentists.

This minimally invasive technique uses a process of infiltration to blend the white spots in with the rest of the tooth. First, a special gel is applied to the teeth to open the pores, before a small amount of tooth-coloured resin is applied. We then use a light to harden the resin and restore natural colour.
And best of all, we achieve all of this without using a dental drill. The process is painless and incredibly quick!

Tooth Gem Appointment
This treatment is a very simple and pain-free procedure which takes around 20-30 minutes to complete. The gem is applied to the tooth using a strong adhesive glue, so no drilling and damage will damage the tooth surface. Before the application is carried out we will examine the teeth for any dental work that might need to be done before the procedure. If any problems are found, then these should be treated before undergoing the application.
Once the procedure has been completed, it may take a little while to get used to the feel of the jewel, but you shouldn’t experience any pain or discomfort. If you do, then you should contact us immediately. We will also provide you with detailed instructions regarding adequate care of the jewel and the surrounding area, it is important for your oral health that you understand and undertake these activities as directed.
Mouth guards and splints help to even out the pressure across your jaw and create a physical barrier between your upper and lower teeth to protect them from further damage. They can also reduce any grinding noises you might make at night.
Mouth guards are like those used in sports such as boxing or rugby. They’re rubber or plastic and can be made by your dentist to fit your mouth. You can also buy a mouth guard from your local pharmacist, but it’s unlikely to fit as well as a custom-made one
A mouth splint is made from harder plastic and fits precisely over your upper or lower teeth. They’re no more effective than mouth guards in reducing the symptoms of teeth grinding. However, they’re more expensive as they last for several years, whereas mouth guards usually only last for less than a year.
Mouth guards are to prevent you from grinding your teeth.
If you grind your teeth while you’re asleep, it may help to wear a mouth guard or mouth splint at night.
